European elections, right-wing electoral success, Ukraine, and the Middle East conflict: The Yearbook of European Integration 2024 describes the most important developments of the past year and analyses their impact on the European Union and its member states.

European debates in 2024 were dominated by the elections to the European Parliament in June and the subsequent formation of the new European Commission as well as the nominations of the heads of the Brussels institutions.

The Yearbook of European Integration 2024 recounts the last year of Ursula von der Leyen’s first term at the helm of the Commission and describes relevant topics of the European election campaign. The Yearbook also analyzes election results and their impact on the future of the EU.

In addition, the Yearbook deals with the ongoing disputes about the rule of law, national election results, debates on support for Ukraine and the impact of the of the Middle East conflict on the EU.

The 44th edition of the Yearbook is a unique resource of contemporary European history. Since 1980, the Yearbook has been analysing developments in the EU and its member states on an annual basis. The authors of the more than 100 articles are recognised experts in their field. They describe the events of the past year (summer 2023 to summer 2024) and analyse their significance for the progress of European integration.

The yearbook is a project of the Institut für Europäische Politik, and organised in cooperation with the Centrum für angewandte Politikforschung of the University of Munich and the Centrum für Türkei und EU-Studien (CETEUS) of the University of Cologne.
