Abstract
Syria has once again become a full member of the League of Arab States within the framework of the de-escalation and normalization process in the wider Middle East. Syria still has the most significant number of refugees in the region: around seven million people live outside the country’s borders and another nearly seven million are internally displaced. Syria has had a changed social structure as a result of the still unresolved conflict, which has been going on since 2011.

The aim of this studyis to analyse the possibility of Assisted Voluntary Return of Internally Displaced persons and the associated difficulties – carried out within the framework of international development cooperation. The research confirms the hypothesis that Internally Displaced Persons often wish to return home when conditions become suitable. It also highlights the problems known at macro level, which are related to the severe economic situation and the poor provision of public services.
